Art in the Alley

Phase one of the Art in the Alley project occurred in 2019. Main Street Elkader sought out artists and both financial and in-kind supporters to create wall art for main alleyways throughout the downtown district. The goal was to create bold, unique, family-friendly artistic statements that reflect our dynamic, healthy and art-friendly community. The Art in the Alley project was formed to enhance this Iowa Cultural and Entertainment District and contribute to Elkader as an arts and retail destination. 

Murals printed panel art were applied in the summer of 2019 to the alleyways as the initial phase of the project, with a plan to expand to as many buildings as possible through supporters of this project. Local artists were encouraged to participate as well as artists from across the region! 

Main Street Elkader is in the process of beginning phase two of the project to add additional alleyway murals.
